Welcome Houston's own DJ Gloss to the Rapmullet review section. I saw the mixtape cover and you know I had to check out her myspace page for the pics (myspace.com/djglossmusic)...I'm a dude that's how we roll. Now DJ Gloss looks good, I can't front...but can she hook up a mixtape? That's the $100,000 question.

Gloss getting the DJ skills off a little something, few cuts and some beatmatching I can dig it. She's doing a hell of a lot more than most mixtape cats do who claim to be running the game I know that. Track wise the first joint that caught my ear was Suga on "Stay Paid". No bullshit, I was diggin' that hook! The bars were proper too. I can't be mad at cats for trying to get on with an Akon hook. Shit if you got the money def get Akon but make sure the song pops. Assassin went that route with "You Like Me Swag" but the rhyme itself was clock radio speaker weak and of course the hook made the song. Cash got a minor hit with "Put The Camera On Me", shit is like the proto-type for that southern snap music; I'm not mad at it tho. The first cat who rhymed on "Get Money" stole the whole mixtape...that's MIC skills right there people. I hated the hook tho. It was good to hear "Ain't No Party" by Roccett too. Most mixtape cats would say the shit is old but it's a hit that's criminally slept on. Rawcell got the infectious joint with "Urr Myspace Page"...even I was singing the hook after a while...shit pissed me off. Lol On the stripper pole side of things, "Pogo Bounce" accomplishes what it was sent out to do...shake asses and tities. "Cream" was a funny track. The singing part was dope, lyric were real but the rhyme's were some of the corniest shit I've heard all year..."thug passion in this love rapture"? Oh hell naw. I'm not really gonna get into the slow r&b joints cause honestly I wasn't trying to hear that shit; gotta keep it real with ya'll.

There's a couple reason why I like this mixtape. Gloss showing the skills and at the same time breaking new artist. That to me is the bottom line essense of mixtapes. If I want top 40 I'll listen to the radio, the DJ should be playing those new artist and they should be mixing to keep my listening. DJ Gloss accomplished that. Get rid of that r&b near the end and I'm sold...plus the ladies in their underwear on the back cover didn't hurt either. (smiles) (5/5/08)
