I'm a huge fan of mixtape promotion, there's nothing better in the music industry than that shit. DJ Denox doing his thing up in Canada like a vet, shout to that man and shout to HHNlive.com. That's what the mixtape is about, promotion of that site and promotion of dope MCs that you need hear. It's so simple it's should be criminal but it's not...it's just good promotion. lol
The "HHNlive Anthem" was tight; Rebel doing his thing and repin' that shit properly. "It's Over Now" is just smooth. Termanology with that focused flow..."my shine glow / I blind hoes with fine poems / even Com' know the corner is where the crime go" ahhh man tell me Termanology isn't the MC of the future! "Geez Like Deez" is a sleeper track man. I don't know about you but this shit is knocking like Will Ferrell and "more cow bell". Jazzy Jeff and Kel Spencer on "The Definition" got that knock too and don't get me started on cuts on the hook; pay homage to Jazzy Jeff people. Shout to Donny Goines, "Never Let My Talent Die" is deep man and his presence on the MIC is undeniable. I haven’t heard much from Trick Trick lately but “Lets Work” is dope; def diggin’ the underlying message in that shit. You can never front on Tyte Wurk’s MIC skills. These dudes need more mixtape support in my opinion, peep “Choppin” and tell me something different. Where’s Labba been at? “Suck Ya Mamma” is an angry ass track…I can dig it tho. One MC I know I’ve been sleeping on is B.G cause “For A Minute” is a slick ass track; that hook had me open! Rampage and Craig Mack got a song called “YouWon’t Be Around Next Year”…how fitting. Seriously tho Rampage got an ill flow. That last track caught my ear, J. Gib with a mixtape flip of “Crank Dat”…now that’s how you take an MCs track and make it your own.
This was a good ass listen people. Denox putting in solid work and dropping a crazy balance of tracks on here. There’s a little something for everyone and damn near 90% of the artist come thru with some official drops that precede their tracks. I like that shit tho cause the music and artist do all the talking. Props to DJ Denox for dropping those three P’s; Properly Produced Promotion. (2/7/08)
