I'm diggin' how this project was presented. The cover captures exactly what the concept is and that is kind of rare these days. Plus E-V is capitalizing on the fact cats are eating up that "rockstar" image in hip hop. Let's be real with it, Hip Hop sells images, the music is minor theme music for that image...its big business people. I'm not mad at it or this project for that matter. It's good to see a DJ recognize a trend and execute a plan to use it to their advantage; cats are thinking and that's what impresses me.
Still in all tho, rap-rock has it's place. These days it’s watered down from what it used to be about, rappers playing the guitar and dressing like skaters did in 1995 is clock radio speaker weak. Let me get back to the music before I really get off track with this topic. I'm amazed that I actually like "Wind Blow". I mean I know the original so I can appreciate how they flipped it and they did it tastefully too. Bone Thugs doesn't move me but this beat and sample are crazy. "Rock Song" has to be the most generic title to a song one could think of but Jeezy sounds good on that vibe, it's a good fit for him. "World Of Fantasy" is more cheesy 80's balad music than it is rock. I see Weezy plays well off the emotion of tracks and this joint is no different. The bass was working over time on "Watch What You Say To Me"...best thing about the track in my opinion. Mick Boogie back on that remix shit with Jay Z over "Pary Like A Rock Star". Def sick of that song but it was a quality flip none the less. You and I both know the world would have been a better place without the Shop Boyz "Totally Dude". Listening to that song is like cutting your toenails with a flame thrower. "Pink Money In The Bank" was creative as hell. Who ever did that beat deserves props. E-V did justice to "Love Money In The Bank" too; classic sample and a ear for what works well. The sleeper track is Mz. Skittles with "Bad Bitch". Yea her voice is mildly annoying but the song is catchy like warm prostitute ass on summer day.
I'm def not a fan of the "rockstar" image. To me hip hop has always been about setting trends not following old shit but like I said above I'm not mad at it but I def don't have to dig it. E-V did a great job of sticking to the program and presenting a Rockstar project for cats to bump. I def see this joint doing big things and opening up some doors for dude. (9/2/07)
