DJ Snake Eyes
Title: Kayslay Vs Clue Vol. 3

Track list

This is def a different concept in mixtapes. I actual like it. Bottom line Snake Eyes is using freestyles from old Kayslay and Clue mixtapes putting them against each other. I like it for the pure nostalgia of the music, drops and all. I don’t look at Kayslay and Clue as a battle tho. Clue did his thing in the game, made history and then Kayslay stepped up and took the crown. Became ingrained in the streets and we all know mixtapes live and die in the street. I love those Clue drops, his shit rode with the music so well you expected to hear them once you heard the same tracks on and album…talk about branding.

This project is pause and play so don’t expect much “skill” at all. The joints you really really need to hear and/or reminisce over are as follows:

1. Biggie Freestyle from Kay Slay – I never heard this before it’s def pre “Ready To Die” material. He was in full battle mode to the fullest.

2. Cannibus Freestyle from Clue – This solidified Canibus’ status in the game as the best lyrically for that time. It doesn’t get more classic than this when you’re talking about mixtape music. “I’ll battle you juggling a hand grenade with the pin out / in a stolen car with the VIN number ripped out / drinking Guinness Stout doing a 360 spin-out”.

3. Stack Bundles Freestyle from Clue – He beats the shit out of the beat for “Bad News” like he was born to do it. “Got the whole game shook like rocking chairs”.

4. Slim Thug, David Banner and Talib Kweli from Kayslay – Props to David Banner for going off the dome for real but the jewel is Talib murdering both these cats at the end. “till the sky’s pink like white titties”. Lol

5. Cannibus and Papoose from Kayslay – What you want me to say? Bars and metaphors were flipped more than hood cats facing fed time.

6. A-Team from Clue – Hitchcock was so fluid with the language man and Ran was as raw as ever.

7. Cam’ron from Clue – I don’t normally fuck with Cam but he shanked the shit outta this freestyle.

That’s it for me tho on the rewinds. Of course, you know the quality was a little shaky at times but it’s to expected. I give Snake Eye’s credit tho, he’s doing something different and it works. (7/15/08)
