The sticker thing on the cover says, “Attn…this is real Hip Hop”. 4 Sho is a trip. I don’t like to say “real” hip hop like that cause it’s up for debate. However, what I will say is if you want bars, if you want lyrics, if you want that real gutta/greasy Timb wearing hip hop you co a 4 Sho Ryder Muzik mixtape. He’s got D. Dot and Wais P hosting, the Mad Rapper slides thru too and make an appearance as well.
Speaking of Wais P, he’s got bars. The lyrics are flowing freely on “Rock Around The Clock”. “A-millie, A-millie, A-millie”…ahhh man. That 4 Sho mix freestyle using the A-millie beat is cool and all but that beat is like that little piece of shit hanging from your ass that just doesn’t seem to drop in the toilet so you gotta shake your body real quick to make if drop…make it drop already people; enough is enough. Rock and Sean Price go in like the MIC vets they are on “Fuk Dat Rapper”. Not too many up an coming MCs got it popin’ like Ransom right now. “You Know What We About” isn’t brand new but it doesn’t matter cause it’s always stab your brain with your nose bone music when he drops. The Mad Rapper got flow on “Brooklyn Let’s Go”; cats are sleeping on his MIC skills. The real jewel up on this project is “Back Of Ya Mind” with the Ranjaz and Doo Wop. Not only does the beat knock like a landlord looking for late rent Doo Wop proves why he’s better than 90% of the MCs out today. Another track DJs Zzzzzzzzzz on was “Welcome To The Machine”. Straight up and down classic vocal sample and Termanology, Lil Fame and Easy $ dropping knowledge. Remove head from ass and listen to this shit again. Nas is poised to drop the most important album of the last couple of years. “Association” is deep, knowledgeable and fluid and the sad part is the masses will miss most of the jewels. (sighs) St. Laz gotta an anthem with “Life In Brooklyn”, can’t be mad at that. “Close Ya Eyes” is my shit…classic Lox. I can’t bounce from the highlights without mentioning Joell Ortiz as he laces “Summertime In Brooklyn”. He’s one of the MCs that paint’s the illest pictures with the bars.
4 Sho is one of the most consistent DJs dropping “good” music. He’s not trapped by “what’s available for download online” like a lot of cats. He actually builds with artists and fosters relationships that let him stand out from the pack. Moreover, he has his area locked down, he’s a force in his hood and artists looking to get proper promotion respect that. What I liked about this project is that it had more peaks than valleys. I didn’t fuck with every single track but when it comes to good music, he was more than on point. (7/4/08)
