A big shout out to Six Six for the download link, other wise I would have never heard this joint. The blend game is fucked up people. I had to say it. There are however, a few things you can always count on: the first is DJ Crazy Chris always has a concept he is working on, the second is Dirty Harry drops every 6-8 months and the third is Queens DJs are about the only ones doing it consistently...if you want to call it consistent. This joint right here is that old school blend shit, no rhyme or reason to the actual mixtape...just blends back to back to get you in that third lane. You find those joints that make your head nod and you run 'em back to back and it's your theme music for good couple weeks.
The thing is tho, isn’t anything out like this right now. Very few blend CDs in 2007 and even fewing so far in the fourth quarter. This project right here tho is solid. The Alicia Keys b/w Audio Two is my joint; some beat on beat blend shit for that ass...cats rarely do it like that now a days. Truth be told there are a select few beats you can use for beat on beat blends (gotta sound like a classic break beat for one), my true blend heads no what I mean...Ron G perfected that shit. The Keisha Cole blend for "Let It Go" is in that same vein too. Superstar Jay and Duke Diggler pretty much stick to fucking with R&B blends but they flipped it with I Get Money b/w Some Ni99as. That's one of my favorite beats of all time, that shit will have you punching through concrete it's so hard. I'm loving how that Mike Jack joint "Butterflies" came in over "Flashing Lights"...smooth man, mad smooth. The wackest blend tho was that Amerie joint over the LL beat for "Queens". This was like listening to old people shit their pants. Cats blacked out on that Al Green shit and same for the Gap Band. These are the classics new heads no nothing about.
The project was hit and miss for me. I had my favorites and I skipped around but the shit was still cop-able. I dug the fact they were cutting in beats and acapellas...something that is truly lost on the new school. You can tell they have "that blend" ear for music too and the formula is classic. I think cats can do better tho and I'm def waiting to see what they drop next month because they did say one new blend CD a month from now on. I'm holding cats to that statement too. (11/20/07)
