Welcome DJ Eggnice to the Rapmullet review section. I've heard about Eggnice but never heard a mixtape from him...I remember hearing about a Dr. Dre or Aftermath mixtape he did last year I think. I know the Biggie thing has been done many many times before but I still continue to listen because you just never know what you will hear...good or bad and in these times I'm always trolling for something to murder. In Eggnice's case you get to hear the good...let's go.
What do the following beats all have in common? Rappers Delight, Good Times, Set It Off, Knockin' Boots, Hip Hop Junkies, The Symphony, Children’s Story, OPP, Paid In Full, Bring The Pain, Let The Music Play, Hold On, Back To Life, My Name Is D-Nice, Posses On Broadway, Mom's In My Business…to name a few. Yes they are all classic beats but they are also blended with Biggie on this here mixtape so you can understand what this shit is all about.
There are 40 tracks on here so don’t expect highlights on every single one, just the joints that kept me in the fast lane. From when you hear the first cuts and scratches on the intro you know you’re about to hear the sickness. “Friend of Mine” sets the tone, peep Eggnice cutting in over the top of the beat…a lost art in blends today. It’s a classic beat too so you know the rest of the CD is feel good music. The first blend that got me in the fast lane for real was “More Money More Problems” over “Set It Off”. Once in the fast lane tho Eggnice introduces Biggie to Candymans classic “Knockin’ Boots”. Never ever ever did I think I would hear Biggie on this beat. Set the cruise control cause this shit is laid back. Click the link for “Victory” and you’ll understand why this is “wrap your ride around a telephone pole music”. Now click “10 Crack Commandments” and see why this shit is a classic and should remain in your cars CD player for a week and some change. To my surprise…Eggnice even rhymes on this project with a little freestyle over “So What You Saying” and dude actually was decent and he shitted on you other DJs too…you gotta love that shit. I’ve heard so many blends of “Deadly Combination” but none compare to that shit over “Funky Child”. What kills me is my favorite part of the whole CD was only 51 seconds long but it was crazy. Click the link to “Going Back To Cali” and see what I mean. Before we exit the highlights, make sure you check for “Who Shot Ya” over “Back To Life”. That’s a grainy ass DYI acapella to fuck with but Eggnice pulled it off.
This is a classic. Let me tell you why: skills, beat selection, direction, and more skills. Add to that the fact Eggnice torn down a freestyle just adds to it. Notice I said direction. Direction meaning the way he manipulated the blends to a certain vibe; that vibe being classic feel good music. Every other DJ out there, for the majority, tried to blend Biggie on some hard shit, some gutta ass, selling crack mid 90’s playa shit…and that’s cool. Eggnice went in the opposite direction and gave you that party feel, with classic beats that you know and love. Biggie flowing over the top and he did it in a skillful way. This is a how you enter a mixtape “genre (Biggie blend CDs)” that’s been absolutely flooded with material and set yourself apart from everyone…and I mean everyone. Let’s see whose taking notes on this one. While you’re doing that peep Sir Mix A Lot and Biggie on “Slow Your Roll”…CLASSIC!! (5/3/07)
