CT is most def and without a question in the fucking building. For those not familar with Opium Black you must not have your ear to the street in the east. DJ Kurupt is hosting and keeping things moving. You might not see Kururpt online like you did in the past mixtape wise but rest assured he still does his thing. Some cats just adapt on this mixtape shit and take it to another level with steady bread and behind the scene moves.
I only listen to a few MCs when I want to get into some gangsta shit. Opium Black providing that fix. Whether it's all real or made up is irrelevant to me, it's entertainment and it's theme music for when I'm on that dirt all by lonely shit. "Vaseline" got Opium Black flipping words like packs on the block. The fucking hook on this joint is crazy like cat shit. Can't say I was diggin' the "We Takin" Over " flip...sick of that fucking beat man. The sleeper track comes early with "Jah Jah City" featuring Capleton. Infidel on the beat, shit got that slow flow but Opium Black comes with the high energy. "Swagga Bitch" will def not be on the radio anytime soon but it is an anthem. The potential in that song is endless. Cats might have to get a visual behind that joint. "I'll Be Around" with Shareefa was cool, showing the versatility a lil something. Shit wouldn't be right if he didn't rep for his home town, "Homicide Hartford". This joint might need a remix cause the beat was lacking. I was never big on "2 Step" but Opium Black owned this shit like a true mixtape vet. "Coulda Killed You" got this whole Killarmy vibe to it. No MC has captured that essence for awhile.
The other reason I fuck with Opium Black is he sounds like no one else out right now. He may be an east coast MC but he can appeal to whole fucking country on any beat...that's a problem. I'd like to see him build with some cats in the south especially cause not only do dudes out there support properly they would most def be diggin' his music. His grind is heavy and its only a matter of time before that major bread is broken. (8/5/07)
