I’m on my mixing shit again so if it ain’t mixed you might as well be shoveling shit. I don’t care what cats think “the consumer” wants to hear; this is mixtapes….where shit is mixed. Also known as one continuous mix. I know I’m in the minority right now too. I’m sitting in the mixing room all by myself while the “masses” are next door smoking crack and eating bologna sandwiches. It’s cool tho, I’ll eat this moldy “old school” PBNJ. Rhude is mixing, not every track back to back but it’s mixed.
Shout to Jusmula on the remix for “Freak Show”. He laced those bars for some R&B shit. I sleep on a lot of dude’s music but he gets it in. Scott Storch still making beats? Damn, I thought he’d be selling fruit on the side of the road in Florida by now. “Step Out” is mad formulaic but when has he ever done anything besides that. Mario you better than that man. I know I know…it’s the label right? Am I the only one who thinks R. Kelly dumbed his music down to the lowest levels ever. I agree “Bobble” is a club hit or whatever but damn in the content isn’t built for the mindless. This is borderline creepy/feel good music. I’m a ¼ of the way thru the mixtape and the vibe is kind of powerful. Rhude doing his job with the track list. My joint is “Radio” tho. Musiq Souldchild is that dude and this is def a different sound for homeboy. (rewinds) Darkchild where you been at? Still working with Brandy and shit…”Darkchild…’99”. That was his most memorable shit, the drop. “When I Grow Up” is luke warm at best. The true sleeper has to be “Can’t Find Words” by Karina Pasian. Ryan Leslie produced and got shit knocking like woodpeckers in heat; can never go wrong with classic breaks. Besides that “Radio” joint, you know “Magic” is the shit. Robin Thicke is the new Jon B hands down. Back on that, high-energy shit is Andre 3K and John Legend with “Green Light”. I dig “Teenage Love Affair” but LL killed if for me on the remix. Can you say corn puffs and that beat was *yawns. I know the masses is diggin’ it tho.
For those that don’t know this is Rhude’s signature series, the joints that move asses in the street. Me, I’m partial to the Block Muzik joints and the new MCs. It’s the balance between the series that ultimately works tho. Not to mention the “musical integrity”. I know most of you have never heard that term…and it shows. Rhude personifies it. (7/17/08)
